On January 24th, Bright Kids Punggol 192 was transformed into a vibrant hub of festive cheer as we celebrated Chinese New Year with our wonderful families. The event was filled with traditional activities, cultural tales, and delightful experiences, providing everyone the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the Lunar New Year.
Kicking Off with CNY Presentations
Our celebration commenced with an informative presentation on Chinese New Year using engaging PowerPoint slides. This session highlighted the history, customs, and significance of the festival, educating children and parents alike about the traditions that make this holiday so special.
The Story of Nian
Following the presentation, we shared the captivating story of Nian, the mythical beast that heralds the origins of Chinese New Year customs. The tale captured the imaginations of our young listeners and offered insights into why certain customs, such as using loud noises and bright colors, are integral to the celebrations.
Singing and Dancing to CNY Songs
The event continued with lively singing and dancing sessions featuring popular Chinese New Year songs. The joyous melodies and vibrant dance moves brought everyone together in a harmonious celebration, filling the room with festive spirit and smiles.
Engaging Game Booths
After the cultural and musical sessions, families had the chance to explore a variety of game booths that celebrated Chinese culture and traditions:
Calligraphy Writing: At this booth, children practiced the art of calligraphy, using red paper and brushes to write auspicious characters such as "福" (fu, meaning fortune) and "吉" (ji, meaning luck). It was a wonderful opportunity for them to engage with a traditional Chinese art form.

Musical Chair Booth: Featuring Chinese New Year songs, this classic game had children and parents moving and giggling as they vied for seats when the music paused, adding a fun and festive twist to the traditional game.
Rice Ball Game: A test of dexterity and teamwork, families raced to scoop and transfer ‘rice balls’ from one bowl to another, promoting cooperative play and family bonding.
Food Booth: The delicious aroma of traditional Chinese delicacies filled the air at our food booth, where families enjoyed treats such as glutinous rice balls, adding a tasty culinary experience to the day's festivities.
A Festive Day of Fun and Learning
Our Chinese New Year celebration at Bright Kids Punggol 192 was a resounding success, providing families with a rich tapestry of cultural lessons, joyful music, and engaging activities. We are grateful to all who joined us in making the event so memorable and look forward to continuing our tradition of celebrating cultural diversity and community spirit.
